Genesis 2:2-3 - By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
Whether you believe that God did all of those things in 6 days, 6 weeks, 6 months or 6 years - it doesn't matter because on the 7th day He rested. Did He need to rest? I would venture to say no, but here is God who didn't need to rest and gave us the example of what to do, but we feel like we do not need it. The first series of examples that the Father gave to us was to work hard and rest.
I have spent the last few years breaking this on a weekly basis. 2010 is going to be different. We have spent the last few months observing the sabbath, and I want to roll it into 2010 to become the norm in my life. I love that in our Bible reading plans that thousands of people read - the first lesson is rest. We start by "resolving" to do things, but I would encourage all of us to stop for a second and rest. If we give God our lives - He can do more with our time than we could ever imagine.
Lord,
You spent 6 days working and then rested. May I live that so I become the man of God that You have called me to be. To be a godly child, husband, father, pastor and friend. As I give this year to you, help me remember you are first and not the stuff!
Your kid,
Jake
